- 1813: Der Dichter Theodor Körner, nach dem die Körnerstraße benannt wurde, fällt in der Nähe von Gadebusch.
- 1917: Der Matrose Max Reichpietsch, nach dem später der Max-Reichpietsch-Platz benannt wurde, wird zusammen mit seinem Kameraden Albin Köbis zum Tode verurteilt und am 5. September erschossen.
- 1935: Der Jura- und Völkerrechtsprofessor Dr. Walter Schücking, nach dem die Schückingstraße und das Walther-Schücking-Institut der Kieler Universität benannt sind, stirbt.
- 1944: Zwischen 22:55 und 23:20 Uhr erleidet Kiel den schwersten Luftangriff im Zweiten Weltkrieg. 800 Maschinen werfen rund 300 Luftminen, 1.000 Spreng- und 100.000 Brandbomben ab.
- 1972: Die Segelwettbewerbe der XX. Olympischen Sommerspiele werden im Olympiazentrum Schilksee ausgetragen.
